Southern Utah '06
Arrived in Vegas Saturday after red-eye, picked up my rental and immediately headed towards the imcomparable red rock canyon country of southern Utah
To orient, compliments of Google Earth
Utah.
The Escalante River runs through the
center of this image. All the branches are the myriad wild and wonderful "canyons
of the Escalante". The distinctive branch above "escalante" is Coyote Gulch. It continues
north to the Dry Fork. The Escalante runs into the Colorado, er, rather Lake Powell (lk foul),
at the bottom of the image. The N-S feature on the left is the Straight Cliffs.
Hackberry is the canyon in the middle
of this image. The feature running N-S on the right of the image (the narrow
yellow line left of the blue) is the cockscomb. Cottonwood Canyon Rd runs along that.
Taking the scenic drive through Zion National Park....

Continuing past Bryce NP....

Past the pink and gray cliffs....

To Escalante. Aaaaaah, Escalante!

Starting the 6 mile Lower Calf Creek Falls hike
in the late afternoon. On the hike in, I must have walked past 100 7year olds, some being
pulled in wagons by their parents! There were far fewer people by the time I was
ready to hike out.
