Weekend trip to Oahu with Rose

I traveled to Oahu with Rose over President's Day weekend. I was actually going for the annual Great Aloha Family Fun Run, an 8.1 mile race that Monday, but figured I might as well explore more of Oahu over the weekend.

Pearl Harbor, USS Arizona Memorial

Hiking up Mt. Olympus, Honolulu in the distance. The trail followed a knife edge ridge up to the Koolau range (also a knife edge ridge with views down to both sides of the islands. I'm sure the views would be great, if we'd had them. Unfortunately it was a murky day on the west side and cloudy/foggy on the east.

The view down the east side, Olomana 3 peaks visible (last year's hike)

Early the next morning...

red crested cardinal

Hanauma Bay, supposedly the best snorkel site on Oahu. The good parts (the coral) were disturbingly shallow though. We're talking, sucking in and hover on 2 inches of water in places. Yikes. Overall I was not that impressed, but there was a great variety of fish and quite a few I'd never seen before.

The Buddist Temple. You can't beat the setting.

Watching the surfers on the N. Shore (none at this particular beach though
