Hiking in the Sierras 2005
Day 3: PCT section
~22 miles of wildflowers!
Eager to start our adventure. 14.5 miles as the crow flies.... but we will take the PCT winding around mountain ridges and valleys from Pilot Peak, past the A Tree, and on to the Lakes Basin where we'll descend via Long Lake to Gray Eagle Lodge, take the Gray Eagle creek trail to the dam on the creek, follow the comstock to the plunge, walk/slide down the comstock to the Graeagle power station, and rock hop down the creek right back to home! Well, that was the plan....

Trail overrun with paintbrush!

Slowed down by my blisters, we made it to our lunch cave later than hoped. Great view looking back from whence we came: see that most distant pointed mountain just left of center. That would be Pilot Peak. We started on the far side of that. Ouch.

Aaah, back in our neighborhood. Buttes in view.

The infamous Spencer Lks

~17 miles and 4 painful feet later, we've made it back to the Lakes Basin. Phew. Just 8 or so miles to go....

Cooling barking dogs. We didn't quite make it all the way home as planned. After hobbling in late to the Gray Eagle Lodge and 3 miles short of our goal we called mom for a ride home. 22 miles aint too shabby, but I'm coming back with better boots and conquering this!
